DOLPHIN CONNECTION TEXAS

INGLESIDE ON THE BAY, TEXAS

07/30/09If it doesn't make you smile....
Wow! Now that was a windy month, much like the rest of the year. We've never had so many disappointed dolphin lovers. Not because our trips didn't work out, but rather because we couldn't get them out to be with the dolphins. Our dock sits in a cove protected from the wind. We had canceled our trips this particular day because the winds were 35 mph and gusting to 45 mph making extremely choppy bay water. I called Sonja from the bay and she canceled yet another day. The family scheduled to go didn't check their messages and showed up at the dock. They couldn't believe we canceled because it looked OK in the cove. After being told I just didn't want to take them, I put them in the boat and off we went. In 3 minutes we lost the protection of the cove. As I made our way to the dolphins, the waves were coming over the bow and sides. The father, who was very rude at the dock, came and said, "Please take us in. I'll pay you. I had no idea." So, if you didn't get out and were upset, believe me. it wouldn't have made you smile and our philosophy is, "If it doesn't make you smile, we don't do it." Sonja has spent countless hours booking our customers, bending over backwards trying to get them out to see the dolphins, only to have to cancel them, getting the brunt of their disappointment. This year, because of the high winds, we've only been able to run 1/3 of our trips -- making for a financially disastrous year. So, if you want to help with Erv and Sonja's "winter fund" feel free to mail donations to Dolphin Connection, Rt. 1 Box 185, Ingleside Texas 78362. Its going to be a long lean winter. We'll be living close to the bone. I've gotten a lot of feedback about the babies that were bitten by the sharks. They are both doing fine. Please pray the winds go away.
