DOLPHIN CONNECTION TEXAS
INGLESIDE ON THE BAY, TEXAS

| 04/22/10 | ...I'm never washing this hand ! | | Spring is so great. No more cold weather. YEAH! Back to shorts, t-shirts, and sandals. It feels so good, we took off a few days and went up to Cuero, Texas (wildflower capitol of the world). What a spectacular sight. If you have not made the drive, it's well worth it. But hurry they're at their peak. Dolphins are incredible. So far there are nine baby dolphins. We lost one of our wonderful customers. She always loved being with the dolphins and wanted her ashes spread amongst them. This was one of several funerals we've done this year. Everyone feels different about dolphins. Some would give anything just to touch one. Others could care less. One day we took a great family of four out into the blue. They had a five year old girl and an eight year old boy. The family was really excited as they approached us. The kids had their hands in the water hoping as so many to touch them. The dolphins went right to the boy. Who pushed on their nose. Messed with their teeth and rubbed their belly. Each time the girl would try to touch one they would go to her brother. I started felling sorry for her. Then just before the trip ended a dolphin named Sarha came by. She started nudging on her hand. When Sarha swam off, she pulled her hand in and held it with her other. She turned to her mom and said, "Mommy, I'm never washing my hand." It meant everything to her and nothing to her brother. Sarha is an old dolphin. One of the bigger ones in the bay. She's always been gentle. One time we were motoring slow. I was dragging my hand when a dolphin named Whistler came by and gave me a quick tug on the hand and swam off. Then Sarha came by and took my hand in her mouth. About a minute passed and she still had my hand. Then two and three minutes passed and she still had my hand. I was beginning to think I was going to have to fight her to get it back, when she let go. Sarha to me is like a sweet but huge grandma of the sea. I hope if you haven't, you get an opportunity to meet her. What a privilege it was to have her hold my hand. |
